“After several years of significant growth, a moderate increase is expected in 2009,” Ursus Breweries President and CEO, Stephan Maria Weber, told Business Standard.
Ursus sales growth tempered to 11 percent in the final quarter of 2008, compared to 18 percent year-on-year, according to company data.
Romania is among countries that contributed to the overall 1 percent growth of SABMiller globally.
However, the 11 percent growth is not even half of that registered in the third quarter, of 24 percent. “The lower sales in the last quarter of 2008 are explained by the fact that at that moment, deliveries were more reduced than in the summer months,” Weber said.
He added that the company is planning to increase market share above the 29 percent level registered last year. It currently targets 30-35 percent in market share. However, Weber denied that Ursus Breweries is interested in taking over local Bere Azuga brewer.
The company’s main competitors are Heineken Romania, InBev Romania, United Romanian Breweries Bereprod, European Drinks, and Romaqua.
