“I think BNR could intervene at 3.85 lei per euro. There are strong pressures for leu depreciation, since Romania is perceived as a risky country,” said ING Bank senior economist Nicolaie Alexandru-Chidesciuc.
The national currency negative evolution happened as the US Senate decided to approve the €700 billion Paulson Plan. The vote devaluated the US dollar and the NY Stock Exchange dropped. In Europe, stock exchanges increased, a trend reflected in Bucharest.
