Vestas plans to invest in wind energy in Romania

The company's direct competitors are General Electric Energy or Siemens. Romania is one of the countries with the highest wind energy potential in the region, according to a study by energy advisory company Emerging Energy Research. Romania has a wind energy potential of 3,000 MW, surpassed only by Bulgaria, with 3,400 MW and Poland, with 4,000 MW.

Vestas posted turnover of €4.8 billion last year and a profit of €291 million. The company is present in most European countries and has some 15,000 employees.

The largest investment in the Romanian wind energy sector was announced by Spanish company Iberdrola Renovables. It will take over 50 wind energy projects locally, with a total capacity of 1,600 MW.

Also, CWP Cyprus company and businessman Emanuel Muntmark plan to invest some €450 million in two wind energy parks with a total capacity of 335 MW. Eviva Energy, local branch of Portuguese group Martifer, plans to build this year wind energy turbines with a total capacity of 50 MW.

The national electricity transportation company Transelectrica approved three projects to build wind energy parks with a total capacity of 600 MW. Transelectrica was submitted requests for projects totaling some 4,000 MW in wind energy turbines.
