Vodafone Romania posts 84.4 percent growth for mobile data

Vodafone’s total income amounted to €1.184 billion, 11 percent higher year-on-year, while income from services rose 10.4 percent, up to €1.122 bln. The average revenue per user (ARPU) amounted to €11.

“Following the success of mobile data promotions launched last year and an increase in mobile data clients, income from this segment rose 84.4 percent year-on-year. In the 2008-2009 financial year, we will keep developing our products and services portfolio to provide our clients with a variety of options,” Vodafone Romania’s CEO, Liliana Solomon, said.

The company posted €558 million in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA), 11.2 percent higher year-on-year.

Vodafone Romania is the second-largest mobile operator locally, with Orange, Cosmote and Zapp as its main competitors.

Globally, Vodafone is the largest mobile communications group, with some 260 million clients. The group posted €44.48 bln in income, 14.1 percent higher year-on-year, and EBITDA worth €16.54 bln.

Aside from the positive financial results, the company yesterday confirmed the resignation of Arun Sarin, CEO of Vodafone, as of this July. The company’s new CEO will be Sarin’s current deputy, Vittorio Colao.
