Vodafone tops 1 billion euro

The Vodafone Romania telecom operator, one of the main players on the Romanian telecommunications market, topped €1 billion in revenues in the fiscal year 2006-2007.

Vodafone Romania’s total revenues reached $1.369 billion (approximately €1.062 billion), up 28 percent from the 2005-2006 financial year.  Revenue from services soared by 29.3 percent in the past year, reaching $1.304 billion (about €1.012 billion). The operational profit was 47 percent of revenues.

“On the local market, Vodafone is the fastest-growing operator, increasing its service revenues by almost 30 percent in the past financial year,” said Liliana Solomon, CEO of Vodafone Romania.

Vodafone Romania gained 237,000 new customers, reaching 7.954 million by the end of the first quarter of 2007, while the number of customers rose by 1.57 million during the fiscal year 2006-2007, according to company report, which translates to a 24.6 percent increase from 2005-2006.

Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) reached $643.7 million (about €478 million), compared to the $510.5 million (some €380 million) registered in 2005-2006, a 26 percent increase.

he average revenue per client reached $15.1 (€11.22) by the end of March 2007, compared to $14.9 (€11.07) at the end of Q1 2006. Two thirds of Vodafone’s customers use prepaid services while the remainder has subscriptions. On the Romanian telecom market, Vodafone’s main competitors are Orange Romania, Cosmote and Zapp. Vodafone registered the highest net sales of all local operators and Orange Romania the highest number of customers – 8.271 million customers at the end of the first quarter of 2007.
