Asked about his expectations of the European Union and Romania, Voronin told the Spanish El Pais daily that he does not expect the EU to place the Republic of Moldova before its solidarity with Romania. “I expect nothing good in the near future. Romania does not realize that it is in the EU and that it must comply with certain rules,” Voronin said.
The Moldovan President added that Romania’s joining the EU has made things very difficult for citizens of the Republic of Moldova, who now require visas to enter Romania.
Voronin’s harsh accusations came one day before President Traian Basescu addresses Parliament on foreign affairs matters. Last Wednesday, Voronin said that some forces in Romania are bottom of the turmoil in Chisinau.
Liberal Deputy Bogdan Olteanu, member of the Foreign Policy Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, told Business Standard that Romania can only intervene to suggest that the European Union adopt a common position against the abuses of the communist power in Chisinau.
Meanwhile, spirits have calmed in Chisinau, after the Constitutional Court decided to call for a recount of parliamentary election votes.
