Wages increase faster in Cluj than in Bucharest

Several significant investments were announced or made recently in the western part of the country, especially in Cluj, where mobile phone manufacturer Nokia started production this year. Other fields with significant investments are IT and retail. In these segments, the salary gap between Bucharest and above-mentioned cities is narrowing. Furthermore, for certain positions, gross monthly salaries exceed those in Bucharest by as much as 10 percent.

“For instance, for unskilled positions, where personnel turnover is very high and recruiting potential low, the pay can be better than in the capital, where more potential candidates are available,” said a Senior Consultant for HR advisory ConsulTeam, Ioana Tot.

Quality Managers and retail sales personnel also have higher salaries in Cluj-Napoca and Timisoara, compared to Bucharest. The most sought after employees in the region are engineers, IT specialists and retail specialists.
