“Sibiu Monetary-Financial and Commodities Exchange officials will meet a representative of the Eurex-Deutsche Borse to finalize negotiations, but the management of the Sibiu operator has already decided to continue negotiations with the Poles, who were their first shareholders,” sources close to negotiations told Business Standard.
BMFMS has discussed a possible merger with OMX, the company which owns exchanges in the Nordic and Baltic regions, the Warsaw Stock Exchange, the Eurex-Deutsche Borse consortium, and Euronext.
“The Polish operator will continue to buy, but brokers who own Sibiu operator shares want to keep their 57 percent equity interest,” said these sources. When contacted by Business Standard, the President of BMFMS, Teodor Ancuta, said that “the Warsaw Stock Exchange will be a strategic partner” but declined to provide further details regarding the merger. “We will send specialists to Poland to get to know their platform and depository,” he added.
Dariusz Marszalek, representative of the Polish Stock Exchange, has confirmed their interest in increasing their BMFMS holdings. “We are interested in buying more than we obtained through the participation in the capital increase,” Marszalek said.
