“The opening of a White&Case office in Bucharest is an natural move, as we have been carrying out many local market advisory projects for several years, especially in M&A, private equity, and real estate. The Romanian law firm business market has huge potential, and this is also a door to Southern Europe,” said Jan Matejcek, Executive Partner of the White&Case office in Prague, one of the partners involved in the opening of the Romanian office.
The Bucharest office will be headed by a former Partner of Linklaters Romania, Todd Shollenbarger, confirming information published exclusively by Business Standard as far back as September 2007.
“The entry of a player of such magnitude will surely have much influence on the local market. It will bear pressure on competitors, especially in terms of human resources. In Romania the competition is more in terms of attorneys than of clients,” according to a statement for Business Standard by Florentin Tuca, Managing Partner of the Tuca, Zbarcea&Asociatii law firm. Most local market lawyers believe that the impact of the entry of White&Case onto the Romanian market will be a long-term one.
This is the 37th office of the law firm globally, present in Central and Eastern Europe since 1990, with over 250 attorneys in offices in Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Russia.
