Ludwik Sobolewski, President and CEO of the Warsaw bourse, said that WSE has allocated time and important resources for this project, but he did not mention how many listings he expects for the Sibiu Stock Exchange. Teodor Ancuta, SIBEX President, said at the end of 2007 that he estimates daily liquidity to amount to €10-15 million on the spot market. Sobolewski mentioned that Romanian and Polish brokers will have access to the Sibiu share market.
In early January, the Sibiu Stock Exchange became a member of the Association of Futures Markets (AFM), an international organization that comprises stock exchanges from emerging futures markets in Europe, Asia, South America and Africa.
“Romania is one of the countries where we have encountered problems because the legislation is more restrictive, but we have also found that the representatives of the Sibiu bourse are very determined to collaborate very closely,” Sobolewski says.
WSE owns 1.8 percent of SIBEX. “I think Romania has great potential, and the competition between the Sibiu and Bucharest Stock Exchanges can only be positive,” Sobolewski added.
