According to a notice posted in the entrance, the store was closed as of 15 June, although according to the operator’s site the store still shows as active, alongside the other four own stores, and 12 partner stores. “This store was not closed, but rather is being relocated. We do not have information about the location to which this store will be moved,” said Carmen Lazar, Corporate Affairs Manager for Zapp Romania, contacted by telephone by Business Standard. The Zapp official refused to provide any further comment.
The closure of this location is all the more surprising as other mobile telephony operators indicate that Magheru Boulevard [the continuation of Nicolae Balcescu Boulevard] is a highly sought after spot.
Vodafone, the second-largest player on the mobile phone market, also has its own store on Magheru Boulevard. “The Vodafone Romania store at Boulevard Magheru is a premium location of our distribution network, located along one of the capital’s main arteries. As concerns sales, there are also other Vodafone stores in Bucharest with excellent results,” said Bogdan Matei, Director of Retail Sales.
According to officials of Cosmote Romania, the opening of its Cosmote-Magheru store had an immediate and major impact on sales registered by the company. “Boulevard Magheru is a very attractive location for mobile telephony retail, so a store in this area is a natural move for a company interested in its position,” said Cosmote officials.
