Graduates want €1,000 while companies pay less than half this

Graduates of economic universities expect to receive a monthly €800 as a starting salary, while recent graduates of the Polytechnical University in Romania demand a monthly salary of €1,000, according to a survey by the German Trendence Institute research company. However, the few companies that are still recruiting at present are not willing to pay more than €500 per month to an entry level employee.

“A new university graduate, with no experience on the labor market, regardless of the profile, cannot receive a salary of more than €500. The fact that they make demands does not mean they will receive such salaries. This is not possible, considering that an experienced accountant has a salary slightly over €1,000 on the local market,” Daniela Necefor, Managing Partner of the Total Business Solutions recruitment company, said.

The preferences of young people regarding the profile of their employer and the work schedule are similar to those of youths in other European countries. Both Romanians and other Europeans wish to start their career in a multinational company and work 43 hours a week.

Major differences appear in terms of salaries, as the expectations of Western Europeans are much higher. For example, a young Engineering university graduate in Denmark requests a monthly salary exceeding €4,000.
