"In the past two years, IT salaries have doubled, for both entry-level and top or niche positions, above the regional level, and not far from western salaries," Mihai Moghior, Managing Partner of the Brainspotting recruiting company, specialized in IT, told Business Standard.

He added that IT specialists who went abroad are beginning to return. "In 2007, we placed at least 10 persons who came from abroad," Moghior said. They are attracted by the dynamics of the Romanian market, and the fact that many interesting positions have appeared.

Valentin Tomsa, General Manager of SAP Romania, leader on the business software supplier market, said salaries have increased more in the programming field than in business IT consultancy in the past two years. He added that annual growth registered in the programming field was 25-30 percent in the past two years, while in the IT consultancy field this increased a mere 20 percent.

"In the coming three-five years, IT salaries will continue to increase at the same pace as before. One reason is that Romania, upon accession to the European Union, moved into another risk category and became an attractive destination for more conservative companies," said Felix Enescu, President of CIO, association of IT managers of large Romanian companies.

The salary of a Unix System Administrator exceeds €2,500 net per month, for a specialist with three-five years of experience, since they are presently very difficult to find . "An IT manager who may be on the board, can earn more than €10,000 and receives a share package," Moghior said.

Salaries
IT consultants earn more than ITs working in large corporations. Of the latter, the best-paid are those working in the banking sector and telecommunications, paid 15-25 percent more than specialists working in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry, insurance or production. The best-paid positions are Software Architect, Project Manager, and Database Administrator.
