ABB Romania: We are eying local market acquisitions

“If we were to compare salaries in Bucharest with those in Germany, for example, these are similar. But if I go shopping in Germany, things are much cheaper there,” said Peter Simon, Country Manager of ABB Romania, Bulgaria and the Republic of Moldova.

Peter Simon said that consumers control the prices. “In Germany, for instance, if prices are 10 cents lower in one store everyone goes to that store,” according to a declaration for Business Standard by the official of ABB Romania, local subsidiary of the Swiss-Swedish ABB group, one of the largest global suppliers of automation and power technologies.

Simon came to Romania 14 years, and is one of the most experienced expatriates on the local market. He indicated that many in Romania were taken by surprise by the present economic crisis, as they were accustomed to uninterrupted economic growth. “But on any mountain, if you have reached the peak, you must begin to come down a bit. And once you descend, you must be prepared for the moment when it is time to climb again,” added Simon.

The company is targeting engineering and energy production equipment acquisition opportunities on the local market. “We are not presently engaged in any negotiations,” said Simon
