The planned strike is likely to have an effect on the lender’s clients. It is not presently clear if clients will be able to withdraw funds or pay interest rates. BCR has some 630 units and 1,800 ATMs countrywide, plus 15,000 POS terminals in stores, according to the latest data available. BCR representatives told Business Standard that if employees go on strike the bank will try to provide “a minimum of services in as many units as possible, which includes payments of installments, deposits, or cash withdrawals.” Furthermore, ATMs and currency exchange machines will continue to be fed cash. According to BCR’s IT and Operations Vice President Oana Petrescu, the lender will not apply penalties for installment payment delays due to the strike. Prior to the closing of the edition, the bank’s management did not have specific information regarding on the number of employees that are going on strike or the units that are to be closed. Detailed information is to be available tonight, Petrescu said. Trade unions representing the bank’s employees were discussing the situation last night with BCR’s management, and talks were ongoing at the closing of this edition.
