The two companies had such a contract in the past few years, but the producer ended the agreement in 2006.
"We have not reached common ground so far. We do not agree with some parts of the contract," General Sales Manager of Cramele Recas, Rares Marinescu, told Business Standard. He added talks with the French retailer started early this year.
Wines made by Cramele Recas were sold in Carrefour during 2004-2006. The wine producer ended the deal on grounds sales were not profitable. "Taxes were very high and we could not afford to sell wines at prices that were not covering production costs. We could not negotiate a better contract so we were forced to forego the collaboration," Marinescu added.
Major retail chains were recently accused by foodstuffs and beverages producers of asking for sky-high fees for selling products in their hypermarkets and supermarkets.
The local wine market is estimated at some €450 million, with Murfatlar, Jidvei, Cotnari, Cramele Recaş, Vincon, and Domeniile Tohani as main producers.
