The official noted Carrefour will continue its expansion next year and will open seven hypermarkets in Arad, Oradea, Suceava, Pitesti, Braila, Iasi and Bucharest. Carrefour will open in October this year two new units, in Iasi and Cluj, following total investments of 20 million euros.
The French based retailer invested some 225 million euros so far in its eight Romanian units. Carrefour Romania saw sales amounting to 608.9 million euros, last year, a 39 percent hike from 2005 and estimates sales to increase 10-15 percent, this year . The company is targeting sales of more than 1 billion euros in Romania by 2010.
Worldwide, Carrefour sales went up 5.9 percent in the second quarter of the year, to 22.64 billion euros. In France, the company’s largest market, Carrefour reported sales of 10.4 billion euros. The results reported in Romania exceeded the 23.7 percent increase in Poland and 7.9 percent increase in Greece.
