Crisis to drive up prices of foodstuffs

Food prices are likely to increase as of January-February 2009, due to the international financial crisis, the President of the Food Industry Trade Unions Federation (FSIA), Dragos Frumosu told NewsIn.

Companies are increasingly importing products and raw materials, but they are doing this at higher prices, due to the depreciation of the local currency.

“It is hard to estimate the percentage of the price increase, but amid current conditions this will definitely not be lower, Frumosu added.

Dairy products, sugar, grain and meat, especially pork, are the first to become more expensive, he added. (NewsIn)
