Local electricity suppliers will ask the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) to clarify the conditions that an energy producer must comply with to participate in direct sales transactions to eligible consumers, considering that traders say they cannot compete with producers in terms of prices.
The battle becomes fierce in current market conditions, when energy consumption has fallen some 10 percent in the past two months, and competition for clients has sharpened.
“As long as a producer has two licenses, for supply and production, it had better have these activities very clearly delimited, so that no subsidies are created between the two activities. Otherwise, it is difficult for an electricity supplier to have equal chances as a producer,” said the President of the Association of Electricity Suppliers in Romania (AFEER), Ion Lungu, General Manager of CEZ Trade.
