Foodstuff producers requesting government intervention to resolve dispute with hypermarkets

Employer union representatives have indicated that producers are obliged to pay, among others, a store opening, shelf, anniversary, and marketing tax. Unions are requesting that the authorities take measures to limit the construction of hypermarkets in the center of cities and to check on the quality of imported goods, blaming the health authorities for the fact that these foodstuffs are not controlled. Employer unions have indicated that the fact that the authorities are not involved in solving these problems will lead to a rise in prices of Romanian products, and subsequently to a disappearance from the market of domestic producers and the closure of many local factories.
