The distribution of Gallagher products was already transferred to JTI back in July 2007, following the international and local merger of the two companies.
Part of Gallagher’s production equipment was transferred to the Pipera factory, while the remainder was destroyed, as this did not meet JTI’s standards. Only some of the factory’s employees were reassigned to JTI.
The local subsidiaries of the two producers are undergoing an integration process, following last year’s merger, and JTI officials declined to provide further details on the process.
JTI and Gallagher have a 28.4 percent share of the volume of cigarettes sold in Romania, a market estimated to be worth some €2.5 billion.
