Technical tests for the new model are to begin in mid-2009, at the Merisani site, in southern Arges County, close to the company’s production unit. Testing of the Logan model, launched in 2004, and other models produced by Renault, also took place at this site.
The Dacia SUV, derived from the Steppe concept introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 2006, could adopt some features from the Nissan X-Trail model, according to international media. The starting price is set to be at some €12,000, comparable to the Hyundai, Kia or Hover brands.
Besides the local market, the company targets several markets where such cars are in great demand, especially Russia.
Automobile Dacia also presented a new SUV concept, the Duster, at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.
