Local producers posted significant two-digit growth in recent years and the PCs assembled in Romania are likely to dominate the market in 2008 as well. More than one billion computers are expected to be sold locally by the end of the year.
On the desktop segment, four out of top five producers are Romanian companies, according to IDC Romania Analyst Calin Mirea.
Among main local producers are Altex, ProCa, Flamingo International, Complet Electro Serv, K Tech Electronics, Romsoft, Tornado, Brinel, Maguay, and Comrace. Together they sold 472,000 of the total 944,000 computers sold in 2007, according to IDC estimates.
However, local producers, specialized in desktop computers, are likely to lose ground this year, as clients are increasingly switching to notebooks.
