Heineken invests €22 mln to modernize production unit

The company is expecting this investment to strengthen its leadership by 30 percent on the local market.

Company officials had initially announced investments in excess of €50 million in 2008 to increase production capacities and acquire assets. Heineken owns five factories in Romania.

Investments in the Craiova factory were launched in early 2008 and covered the entire production process, including environmental protection measures. Beer brands produced in Craiova are Golden Brau, Bucegi and Gambrinus.

Other brands in the brewer’s portfolio are Heineken, Gosser, Zipfer, Schlossgold, Silva, Silva Dark, Ciuc Premium, Golden Brau, Neumarkt, Bucegi, Gambrinus, Harghita and Hategana.

In the first quarter of 2008, Heineken Romania registered €108 million worth of business, 16 percent higher year-on-year.

Last year, the local beer market exceeded €1 billion. Besides Heineken Romania, other major players are multinational companies Ursus Breweries, InBev and United Romanian Breweries Bereprod, and local brewers European Foods, Bermas Suceava and Bere Azuga.
