“In this year’s first quarter, Hidroelectrica registered a production of 3.813 TWh, almost 13 percent less than that posted in the first quarter of 2008, due to a poorer hydrological situation, compared to the reference period in 2008, when the company produced 4.373 TWh,” company officials said.
Hidroelectrica expects total revenues worth RON 544 mln (€127.5 mln), almost one percent higher than the RON 540 mln (€146.3 mln) level registered in Q1 2008. The rise in revenues and profit is mainly due to the increase in the sale price of electricity.
The producer’s General Manager, Traian Oprea, told Business Standard that the company raised the price of sold energy by 14-17 percent compared to 2008, although it has received requests from eligible clients to lower the price of delivered electricity, considering the economic crisis.
Hidroelectrica produces the least expensive energy on the domestic market, and the average production estimated for 2009 is 15.2 TWh, less than the 17 TWh produced in 2008.
