“We managed to continue growth on a market with a slower growth rate, of 5 percent, and in spite of changing weather conditions. We will keep investing in brands, in production capacities and marketing and we believe we will keep performing above the market growth,” Ursus Breweries President and CEO, Stephan Maria Weber, said.
The company’s Timisoreana brad consolidated its market leader position on the mainstream segment, with 28 percent increase in sales volume, Ursus strengthened leadership on the premium segments, while Ciucas sales increased 26 percent, ranking second on the economic segment. By the end of May 2008, the company had a 29 percent market share, according to Ursus Breweries representatives.
Ursus Breweries owns four factories and has in excess of 1,500 empployees. It produces and sells the Peroni Nastro Azzurro, Ursus, Redd’s, Timisoreana, Stejar, Ciucas and Pilsner Urquell brands.
The local beer market exceeded €1 billion last year, with Heineken Romania, InBev Romania, Ursus Breweries, United Romanian Breweries Bereprod and European Drinks as main players.
