Industrial production rose 5.4 percent in 2007

The processing industry was subject to the fastest rate of growth, at 6.4 percent in 2007, while the extraction industry and the energy field declined by 0.4 percent and 0.9 percent, respectively.

The National Prognosis Commission (CNP) had estimated an increase of 5.8 percent in industrial production last fall, although its President, Ion Ghizdeanu, had anticipated a lower result, albeit still above that published by INS.

“Industrial production is estimated in 2007 at 5.5-6 percent, and its contribution to GDP is insignificant,” Ghizdeanu added.
