INS reported that the total production of milk in 2007 was 5.2 percent lower than the year before, while that of eggs dropped 12.2 percent. The production of wool rose 8.5 percent in the same period. The weight of animals and poultry for consumption increased 7.3 percent, with poultry at 15.2 percent, sheep and goats at 8.9 percent, beef 4.7 percent, and pigs 3.9 percent.
According to sources, the total production of cow’s milk in 2006 was 54,517,000 hectoliters, 3,464,400 hl (6 percent) lower than the year before. Drops by region were registered as follows: Bucharest-Ilfov (36.7 percent), Southern Muntenia (10.1 percent), Center (8 percent), West (6.9 percent), Northeast (6.1 percent), Southeast (5.8 percent) and Northwest (4.4 percent). There was also a 6 percent increase in the Southwestern Oltenia region. (NewsIn)
