Several factories are scheduled to be opened in Romania this year. Some 99 percent of decorative glass production is exported to over 40 countries.
The market imports only auxiliary products and a few raw materials, such as sand for fine glass. Some 150 producers are active in Romania. The most important are Saint Gobain, Stirom Bucharest, and Gerom Buzau. Stirom has a market share of 40-45 percent on the local glass bottle market, while imported products from Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Hungary make up 55 percent.
The glass bottle market could increase 5-6 percent this year. Gerom Buzau announced it will invest some €50 mln to build a new glass bottle factory.
