Most of these 15 percent are made by European Drinks producer, controlled by businesspeople Ioan and Viorel Micula, which entered this field in 2008.
Local independent producers' market share only amounts to 2 percent, with Martens Galati, Bermas Suceava and Albrau Orastie as main players. The remaining 13 percent are owned by European Drinks with the Burger brand and Romaqua drinks producer, with its Albacher brand.
"It seems that the production peak has been reached, now the battle between multinationals will begin to gain market share," according to the President of Independent Brewers Employers' Union, Vifor Versescu, for Business Standard.
He added that the local market significantly tempered its growth rate in recent years, as a 9 percent drop in sales was visible in the field in Q1.
In 2008, the market rose 4.1 percent in 2008, up to 20.2 million hectoliters. The main producers are Heineken, Ursus Breweries, InBev, United Romanian Breweries Bereprod, European Drinks, and Romaqua.
