New cosmetics boost Amway’s business in Q1

“In March and April, growth exceeded 20 percent compared to the same months in 2007,” Amway Romania’s Branch Manager, George Popescu, told Business Standard.
The company is estimating turnover of up to €38.5 mln in turnover by the end of 2008, some 20 percent higher year-on-year.
Cosmetics make up half of the company’s turnover, while food supplements make up a further 25 percent of its net sales. The remainder is household and cleaning products, and perfumes.
The company has some 50,000 distributors locally and plans to increase these by 15 percent by the end of this year.
On the direct sales segment, Amway’s main competitors in Romania are Oriflame, Avon and Zepter.
