“We will initiate a case next year against the Romanian state to return taxes paid by Romanians in 2007. We uphold the right of Romanian citizens not to pay the matriculation tax and request the Romanian Government to desist from this means of fattening the state budget,” according to a declaration Wednesday to NewsIn by the President of OADOR, Theodor Ratiu.
Ratiu further said that the abrogation of the law on this tax would be a sign of respect by the state for the citizens. “I believe it is the right of these people to have their money returned to them, as it is the right of Romanians to live decently in their own country and be respected by their elected officials,” added Ratiu.
