In theory, considering the fact that some two million citizens are working abroad, and specialists expect that 75 percent of the population will participate, a realistic number would be €250 million. At the moment, the market for all private medical services is worth some €200 million, of which lab analysis is estimated by players of the market to bring some €50-100 million. MedCenter's General Manager,
Florin Balanica, estimates that lab services market is worth around €100 million. The government program will double MedCenter's business, according to Balanica. "In the last two weeks, the pacients' number became three-four times higher. We usually have 200 pacients per day, now we have some 500-700 daily", Florin Balanica told Business Standard. For H2, MedCenter's turnover might reach €5.5 million.
Medlife Sales Manager, Ciprian Ciobanu, also bets on double business. For 2007, Medlife estimations are some €10 million worth of business, a third of it being brought by lab analysis. For the entire year of 2007, there will only be a 30 percent increase in turnover due to the health evaluation progeram, because it was innitiated in the middle of the year, appreciates Synevo's Marketing Manager, Mihaela Barbu. Synevo Romania, the laboratories network owned by Medicover, estimates a turnover of €11 million for 2007. The company has 10 laboratories all over the country, and it plans to use mobile labs in order to collect samples from rural areas.
The program will be beneficial especially to well-known laboratories, which will be chosen by most pacients. The program includes 615 laboratories. According to a recent study made by IMAS, the most notorius laboratories are MedLife, MedCenter, Romar, Synevo and Medas. Equipping a laboratory according to EU standards requires a €700,000 investment.
