Producing the tram prototype to cost Astra Vagoane €4 mln

“We shook on this twice with Siemens. We set certain rules. Then they sent back the agreement that we were to sign and which stipulated completely different clauses than what we had originally agreed upon. Practically speaking, they did not comply with the negotiations,” Blidar told Business Standard.

He said that he will look for another international company with which to sign such a partnership. In case he does not find one, the businessman plans to make his own prototype to present at Romanian and international exhibits.

The tram that Blidar wants to build in Arad [Western Romania] will be for both the local and international markets. Romania has a very old railway car park, 30-40 years, which means that this is the perfect market for such products.

The businessman said recently that he wants to collaborate with large railway car producers in Europe, such as Bombardier, Alstom, and Siemens, and possibly form an alliance for building trams below the market price. With Astra’s technology and space, the company could produce between 25 and 50 trams annually.

According to data on the market, a tram produced by large European companies costs some €2.8 million. “In June-July 2010 we will put this prototype on the market, whose costs I estimate will amount to €4 million,” Blidar said.
