Publishing wage information helps companies find employees

This is a standard practice on mature markets, but has been rarely used in Romania until recently.

“I think organizations should publish information regarding wages, as this could prevent discriminatory payments, and could become a tool to attract candidates,” according to the Hudson HR company’s Country Manager, Stephen Moroz. He said that local companies should have a transparent wage policy, while employee salaries are not presently discussed.

Laura Chilom, HR consultant for the eJobs.ro recruiting website, said only 15 percent of companies posting employment ads on eJobs decide to provide the salary offered in the ad form. Most companies would rather discuss this issue during the actual job interview, she said. Among work fields with ads including salary information are construction, agriculture, transportation, marketing and sales, said Laura Chilom.

One of the companies publishing salary information is furniture retailer Mobila Gepa. A representative of this company, Catalina Moldoveanu, said announcing the salary offer is similar to preselecting candidates and makes the recruitment process easier.

Besides narrowing down the number of candidates, publishing salary offers can also help avoiding discriminatory payments. According to Moroz, “it could narrow salary differences between managers and subordinates, and between men and women.
