Recruitment in the oil industry not affected by the financial crisis

“The Scandinavian market is affected by the financial crisis, but this does not impact our recruitment processes in the region. We are still receiving a large number of requests, especially for Norway. Relocation costs, salaries and bonuses remain at the same level,” said Alina Dima Sletten, Human Resource Manager of the Noro Consulting Services company, which recruits Romanian specialists for oil rigs abroad.

According to Sletten, over 75 percent of Norwegian companies in the oil and gas industries have announced development projects for 2009, and are planning to recruit specialists. These specialists, who work in the Scandinavian Peninsula, have monthly salaries worth €4,000-10,000. “Nordic countries work intensely to maintain economic growth and limit the impact of the financial crisis. Authorities are lowering interest rates to stimulate development. In Norway, interest rates are expected to be set at some two percent by the national bank, which will encourage companies and individuals to take out loans and continue their projects,” Sletten added.

Ariel Ungureanu, Project Consultant of the Barnett McCall recruitment company, said that nothing has changed in the oil and gas industry. “In this field, everything depends on the price of oil, which can influence certain projects and, implicitly, the need for employees. At present, Romanian specialists are as much sought after as before in this industry, and have the same financial packages,” said Ungureanu.
