“The whole country, the entire Romanian territory, is 75 percent below the EU average in terms of GDP. The EU’s contribution to the country’s economic development will amount to some €20 billion in the coming six years. If we add Romania’s €5 billion contribution, these are significant funds, worth €25 billion, in terms of total investments in cohesion policies in the coming years,” Gerardo said. The official, a member of the European People’s Party (EPP), added that these funds are an opportunity for the country’s development.
Gerardo also pleaded for the decentralization of Romania’s regions, citing Spain as an example, where this process “led to several very powerful regions.”
