Romania’s trade deficit widens to EUR 15bn as imports win new fight on exports
The country’s trade deficit widened 5.5 billion euros against the first nine months of 2006. The result stems from massive imports which grew 27 percent, while exports rose only 11.7 percent.

Total exports stood at 21.4 billion euros and were defeated by imports, which rose to 36.4 billion euros. Trade with EU countries stood at 15.3 billion euros for exports and 25.9 billion euros for imports.

INS preliminary estimates show exports in September stood at 2.4 billion euros while imports topped 4.1 billion euros. Exports grew 11.1 percent year-on-year in September, while imports saw a 22.5 percent increase.
