Worldwide, the company’s organic sales rose 3 percent, supported by the advance of its Ursus and Timisoreana in Romania.
Organic sales are calculated on the basis of growth alone due to higher sales and production, and excluding profit or growth generated by acquisitions, takeovers and mergers.
In April-September 2007, the company’s sales volume increased 37 percent compared to the same period the year before, due to investments to expand production capacities. Ursus Breweries officials were not available for contact before the print edition closed.
In Europe, SABMiller’s organic sales rose 2 percent year-on-year, after a 12 percent increase in 2007 compared to 2006.
In Romania, SABMiller has a 25.4 percent market share and plans to reach 30-35 percent in the long-term. The leader of the local market is Heineken Romania, according to a study carried out by the MEMRB research company for the first eighth months of 2008.
The local beer market exceeded €1 billion last year. Besides SABMiller and Heineken, other significant producers are InBev, URBB and European Drinks.
