"We had two offers: U.S. company Tech Data, one of the top companies worldwide in the IT field, and the largest European design software producer, Man and Machine. We had advanced negotiations with them, but we preferred Man and Machine," said Cristian Dumitrescu, CEO of MaxCad, reseller of Autodesk products and former majority shareholder of A&C International.
He added that Tech Data is interested in entering the Eastern European market, and Romania could be a platform for markets such as Russia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. Tech Data representatives could not be reached for comment.
"The potential of the Romanian project software market is huge. After Poland, Romania is the second country in terms of potential, because we have no infrastructure, we have no highways, there is a need for housing, and another factor is the large population,” added Dumitrescu. He estimates that the project software market is worth €30 million, and expects a 30 percent growth rate this year, although the market potential is four times larger.
