Boc is PD-L leader. According to the alliance protocol, the two parties divvied up ministries, and state secretaries within one ministry must be from the same party as the minister.
Ardelean was appointed following a nomination by Interior Minister, Social Democrat Gabriel Oprea, but without party approval. The coordinator of PSD ministers, Liviu Dragnea, told Realitatea TV station that Emil Boc was mainly in charge of appointing state secretaries within the Interior Ministry, rather than Oprea, and that the Prime Minister should have consulted PSD President Mircea Geoana.
“I am upset with Emil Boc for signing [the nomination]. Our political relationship has started off on the wrong foot,” Dragnea said. However, he added that there is sufficient time to solve the dispute, stressing that this is by no means a political deadlock.
