The crisis sends Bega Electromotor to the European wind energy market

Due to this crisis, orders for electrical engines for the European Union dropped by one quarter. “If the situation does not pick up within three months we may have to start laying off people. An initial estimate is of about 10 percent of the company’s employees,” Marius Cristescu, President of the Bega group, told Business Standard yesterday.

Marius Cristescu said that all Romanian exporters will be affected if the situation of foreign markets, especially the European Union’s markets, remains unchanged.

“We are trying to alter our strategy and win over markets with other products. We are considering producing small electrical generators for small wind energy plants. We are now exporting such generators to Canada, but in order to maintain our turnover we intend to introduce them to European Union markets as well, especially since European states offer facilities to beneficiaries,” explained Marius Cristescu.

Due to the crisis, Bega Electromotor’s main objective in 2009 is the stagnation of business and the maintaining of this year’s turnover, which is estimated at €12 mln according to company data.
