Thus, the average net salary of Romanians was RON 1,355 (€320) in January 2008, nine percent less than in December. The only fields which registered salary increases were those in education, (+4.7 percent compared to December), insurance and pension funds (+4.6 percent), health and social security (+2.1 percent), and air transport (+1.3 percent).
In the tobacco industry, salaries rose 132.7 percent in December, due to bonuses. In January, with no such incentives, salaries fell on average by 70.5 percent.
In January 2009, the highest net salaries were paid in the field of air transportation, at RON 3,272 (€773), while the lowest were registered in hotels and restaurants, at RON 757 (€179).
