Top salaries in Bucharest in 2008

Newspaper publishing, sports, and IT also turned out to be profitable fields in 2008. As was the case in 2007, two employees of one or two management consulting companies were among the top two earners in Bucharest. They both worked in the capital’s Sector 1, where many companies, including multinationals, have their headquarters. The second-highest salary amounted to some €654,000 annually, and was followed by the earnings of a newspaper publisher located in Bucharest’s Sector 2, worth an annual €619,565. A Sector 1 football coach earned €544,000 last year. Furthermore, DGFPMB data shows that the last salary among the Top 5 in Bucharest amounted to some €407,000 and was paid to an employee of an IT company located in Sector 6. Unlike 2007, people working for the financial markets supervisory authorities, such as the National Securities Commissions (CNVM) or the Insurance Supervisory Commission (CSA), are no longer among the best-paid Romanian employees. Meanwhile, in Sector 5, top earners were people working in the “national defense” sector, according to DGFPMB data. However, their salaries are significantly lower compared to the top 5 wages in Bucharest, from €95,000-120,000 per year. This also happens to be the sector with the lowest salaries in Bucharest. In Sector 3, the top salary was some €356,000 a year, paid to an employee of a company handling property rentals. The top earner in Sector 4 was an employee of a PC and peripherals producer, whose annual earnings were €339,000 in 2008. The average gross salary in Romania amounted to €542 in February 2009, although the figure is higher in Bucharest.
