According to Achim, solar systems sold by the company cover an area of over 3,000 square meters. “This year, we have registered a doubling of orders for solar systems, compared to 2007,” added Achim.
He also indicated that Viessmann Romania has some 30 percent of the market, in terms of units sold. Achim explained that the main market segment are homes constructed in outside cities in the entire southern region of the country, making up some 50 percent of sales, as well as hotels, sanatoriums, and commercial spaces. “The development of this market began three years ago, and growth is determined by the fact that in this wise there is a counterbalance of the permanent increase in the price of energy against fossil resource products,” added Viessmann’s representative. He estimates that the rhythm of growth in 2009 will amount to 20 percent.
The average cost of a classic solar thermal system, which provides hot water to a single family home is €2,000-2,500. “The system can be integrated to also provide heating. The main advantage of such a system is that is ensures energy independence from May to the end of September, even October,” said Achim. He indicated that the photovoltaic panel market, for the production of electrical energy, is one that has not yet developed in Romania, although he hopes that new legislation to promote efficient and renewable energy will lead to the use of solar panels.
