The ratio between net profit and the number of employees, based on calculations made by Business Standard, indicated that each Volksbank employee contributed to the lender’s profit with more than €19,000, while the employees of Banca Transilvania rank last in this list, with a contribution to net profit of €422. However, we must make allowances for the fact that Volksbank currently has 70 franchised units, and the productivity was calculated based on the bank’s 1,500 direct employees.

“There are many factors that influence the productivity of an employee in the banking system. The most important element is the quality of personnel, because 70 percent of a company’s value is given by its intangible assets. Also, the position on the market and the bank’s strategy are important for the performance of employees, but also the way performance is stimulated,” the Chief Economist of BCR, Lucian Anghel, said.

Of the analyzed lenders, UniCredit Tiriac Bank is one of the most productive players, because, with almost 3,000 employees, it generates a net profit per employee worth some €13,900.

Although employees contribute significantly to the profit of banks, with amounts worth tens of thousands of euro, according to the National Institute of Statistics, the average net salary in the banking system in April rose 16 percent compared to March, to some €1,000.
