The European statistical bureau had previously estimated a budget deficit of 5.4 percent, in accordance with the ESA 95 European standard, which means it made a slight upward revision of this indicator. This puts Romania in third place in terms of budget deficit in the European Union in 2008, after Greece (7.7 percent) and Ireland (7.2 percent).
