Pharmaceutical sales in Romania amounted to some €14 mln, up 12 percent compared to the €12.5 mln registered in H1 2008. The rise is due to an increase in inventory by distributors following legislative changes introduced on 1 April, namely the fixing of prices of imported drugs in lei and the inclusion of internationally approved names of drugs in medical prescriptions, according to the report.
On the distribution and retail segment, the Dita Import-Export and Pharmafarm distributors and the Gedeon Richter Farmacia retailer, operating a network of 146 pharmacies in Romania, posted sales of nearly €71.4 mln on the local market in the first six months, up 5.3 percent year-on-year.
Romanian subsidiaries made up almost 95 percent of the net sales registered by Gedeon Richter on the distribution and retail segments, the report said. The company’s main competitors on the local market are Mediplus, Relad International, Fildas, Farmeexpert, ADM Farm, Europharm Distributie, and Montero.
At the global level, the group posted sales of €462.5 mln in the first half of 2009, 2.1 percent more annually. This means that almost six percent of Gedeon Richter’s sales were in Romania.
