Regarding the notebook segment, the company targets a 30 percent share of the market this year, compared to 22 percent at the end of 2008.
One of the factors supporting this evolution is the company’s strategy, which focuses on launching new products. Thus, even if the local PC market and the Eastern European region registered drops of some 20 percent since the beginning of this year, according to specialists, launching new products in this period will help the company gain market share.
“We think it is good to launch new products in this period, considering that many of our competitors no longer have money for investments in research and development,” said Elizarov. According to company officials, Acer will launch 20 new products in Romania in May, which will give the company a two-month edge over its competitors.
PC prices have fallen 15-20 percent since the beginning of 2009, compared to the same period last year, and this trend will continue throughout this year, according to Acer’s Sales Manager for Eastern Europe.
