Basescu met CSM behind closed doors yesterday to discuss the EC report.
Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu said Basescu did not criticize CSM directly, but discussed necessary measures so that the EC’s next report on justice will report progress in areas still requiring work. Basescu did not speak with the media after the meeting.
CSM President Lidia Badulescu, said Basescu’s criticism was similar to that of European officials and that he asked that corruption cases be prioritized.
The justice report criticized Romania for poor performance in fighting high-level corruption and said that decisions in this field are “politicized.” European officials also noted that Romania’s Parliament is blocking investigations of high-level corruption cases.
